Plan and record your progress through the Wainwright Fells of the Lake District
Rampsgill Head, one of Wainwright's Far Eastern Fells, is surrounded by fellow Wainwrights - making it a good target for walkers who enjoy ticking off fell tops from a Wainwright Hill Chart. As a result there are a number of circular route that take in Rampsgill Head together with other fells, and one of these is the best option for walkers wanting to do a Rampsgill Head walk, the summit being reached most easily by using on of the neighbouring fells as a stepping stone.
One such walk begins at Martindale's St Peter's Church, a Ramps Gill round that takes in Loadpot Hill as the first Wainwright fell on the list. Wether Hill is the next Wainwright to tick off, followed by High Raise, Kidsty Pike and Rampsgill Head. After these peaks are behind you, the path continues to The Knott, Rest Dodd and finally The Nab before returning to the Church. An alternative Martindale Round is also possible from the same starting point, and adds the Wainwright fells Steel Knotts, Brock Crags, Angletarn Pikes and Beda Fell to the itinerary for an impressive yield for the keen Wainwright bagger.
From the summit, the Helvellyn range to the west looks impressive, while the Pennines come into view across Haweswater to the East.
